Effect of chest physiotherapy on oxygen saturation in patients with cystic fibrosis.

چکیده
Decreasing arterial oxygen saturation has been reported in patients with cystic fibrosis during postural drainage when this was combined with other manoeuvres, which did not, however, include thoracic expansion exercises or pauses for relaxation and breathing control. When these features were included in an active cycle of breathing techniques during postural drainage in 20 patients with cystic fibrosis there was no fall in arterial oxygen saturation during the procedure (mean values 87.1%, 87.9%, and 86.7% before, during, and after treatment).

Positive Expiratory Pressure (PEP) versus Conventional Chest Physiotherapy in Pediatric Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Cystic Fibrosis
Background Pulmonary involvement is the main cause of mortality in cystic fibrosis (CF). Airway clearance techniques are non-pharmacological complement options for CF patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term outcome of airway cleaning treatment in patients with cystic fibrosis in a children's hospital. Materials and Methods This clinical trial study conducted on 40 CF pati...

BACKGROUND Postural drainage chest physiotherapy in infants with cystic fibrosis (CF) exacerbates gastro-oesophageal reflux (GOR) and may contribute to a more rapid deterioration in lung function. AIMS To compare standard postural drainage chest physiotherapy (SPT) and a modified physiotherapy regimen (MPT) without head-down tilt, with regard to GOR, arousal state, and cardiorespiratory funct...
متن کاملAcute respiratory infection in patients with cystic fibrosis with mild pulmonary impairment: comparison of two physiotherapy regimens.
Chest physiotherapy is an essential part of the management of cystic fibrosis, yet comparatively few studies have investigated the commonly used forms of chest physiotherapy during acute respiratory exacerbations. Fifteen subjects with cystic fibrosis and predominantly mild pulmonary impairment completed a randomised cross-over trial with 24 hours between treatments. The active cycle of breathi...
متن کاملCYSTIC FIBROSIS Non-invasive ventilation assists chest physiotherapy in adults with acute exacerbations of cystic fibrosis
Background: Chest physiotherapy is essential to the management of cystic fibrosis (CF). However, respiratory muscle fatigue and oxygen desaturation during treatment have been reported. The aim of this study was to determine whether non-invasive ventilation (NIV) during chest physiotherapy could prevent these adverse effects in adults with exacerbations of CF. Methods: Twenty six patients of mea...
